A Day at the Beach

Since Ethan was off of school on Good Friday and I was off work we headed to the beach. This was our first trip to Galveston since hurricane Ike visited last summer. Ethan couldn't wait to get to the beach. As soon as we reached the bridge he knew we were almost there. He was pointing out every boat in the water while asking many questions about the boats. My knowledge about boats is pretty much nothing, so I wasn't that helpful with his questions.

The next landmark he was looking for is the Sea Wall. As I turn on the sea wall he says "mommy the sea wall is smaller". I had to think a moment and then remembered Ike. I said Ike took the beach away and so the sea wall looks smaller. They have to rebuild all the beaches so now the water comes right up to the sea wall so you cannot walk on that part of the beach anymore. He thought for a moment and moved on to the next questions, which all had to do with the damage from Ike.

We finally find the beach we can drive on and park. I pulled out our beach stuff and chairs, while Ethan was figuring out what to do first. He built a sand castle with our friend Ashley and then he decided to get into the COLD water with Ashley. It was hard for me to put my feet into the water it was so cold. Then we break out the bread to feed the seagulls. Ethan has never feed the seagulls before so he really had a great time.

After a few hours at the beach we headed home. I took the long way home going all the way down the sea wall then back up to the freeway. I had to see the changes in Galveston after Ike. I showed Ethan places that stores used to be and where the peer used to be. I've attached a few pictures from our trip.

  1. Sounds like a fun trip to the beach. I see Ethan learned a lot about the hurricane too. Next time you come to B'ham, you better let me know. I would like to see you too you know!! I didn't know you had come until you were already gone. Ethan needs to meet his new cousin :)
